The Crime Survey for England and Wales estimated 5,155,000 combined fraud and computer misuse incidents in the year ending December 2025 (4,420,000 fraud; 735,000 computer misuse).

Trend

  • CSEW fraud estimates have risen from 3,395,000 in 2016–17 to 4,420,000 in 2025, with notable fluctuation year to year.
  • Computer misuse estimates have fallen from 1,953,000 in 2016–17 to 735,000 in 2025 as security practices improved.
  • Combined, fraud and computer misuse represent the highest-volume crime category in the CSEW.
